UK public sector finances: Jan 2017

Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) decreased by £13.6 billion to £49.3 billion in the current financial year-to-date (April 2016 to January 2017), compared with the same period in the previous financial year; this is the lowest year-to-date borrowing since the financial year-to-date ending January 2008.

Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) was in surplus by £9.4 billion in January 2017, a £0.3 billion larger surplus than in January 2016; this is the highest January surplus since 2000.

UK services producer price indices: Oct to Dec 2016

The price of services sold by UK companies, as estimated by the Services Producer Price Index (SPPI), increased 1.4% in the year to Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) of 2016, compared with an increase of 1.6% in the year to Quarter 3 (July to Sept) of 2016.

Between Quarters 3 and 4 of 2016, SPPI rose by 0.2%, unchanged from last quarter.

Most common age at death, by socio-economic position in England and Wales: a 30 years comparison

In England and Wales for the period 2007 to 2011, the most common age at death was 85.6 years for men and 88.3 years for women, an increase of 8.2 years and 3.8 years respectively since 1982 to 1986.

The age at which half of the population is expected to be still alive had reached 81.8 years for males and 85.3 years for females; it stood at 74.7 years and 80.7 years respectively in 1982 to 1986.

Deaths registered in England and Wales, provisional: week ending 10 Feb 2017

The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 10 February 2017 (week 6) was 12,269; this represents a decrease of 216 deaths registered in comparison with the previous week (week 5).

The average number of deaths for the corresponding week over the previous 5 years was 10,935.
