The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) forecast that public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) would be £51.7 billion during the financial year ending March 2017. During the financial year ending March 2018, OBR forecast public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) to be £58.3 billion. Country and regional public sector finances London, South East and East of England all had net fiscal surpluses in the financial year ending (FYE) 2016 with all other countries and regions of the UK having net fiscal deficits. London had the highest net fiscal surplus per person at £3,070 and Northern Ireland the highest net fiscal deficit per person at £5,440, in FYE 2016. Deaths registered in England and Wales, provisional: week ending 12 May 2017 The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 12 May 2017 (week 19) was 10,693; this represents an increase of 1,629 deaths registered in comparison with the previous week (week 18). The average number of deaths for the corresponding week over the previous 5 years was 9,158. The increase in the deaths registered in the week ending 12 May 2017 is likely to be due to deaths registered returning to expected levels after the early May bank holiday. Deaths registered by area in England and Wales, monthly provisional: Apr 2017 The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in April 2017 was 39,071; this represents a decrease of 9,544 deaths in comparison with the previous month and a decrease of 7,860 deaths in comparison with the same month in 2016. Moveable public holidays and the number of weekends, when register offices are closed, affect the number of registrations made in the published months and in the corresponding months in previous years. April 2017 included Easter and had 5 weekends, whereas in 2016 Easter occurred in March and April only had 4 weekends. |
