| The proposed ban on allowing transgender people into the military was supposed to go into place on July 1, but the chiefs of the military services now want a six-month delay. USA TODAY reported earlier this month that the Army wanted a two-year delay, while the Marines favored a one-year delay. Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said Friday that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is now deliberating a recommendation from the service chiefs after they met Thursday with Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work.
