Russia election hack leaker faces 10 years in jail

Good morning, and welcome to the Morning Mail.

Among the stories leading our website this morning: A highly classified NSA report has been leaked that details efforts by Russian military intelligence to hack a voting software supplier – and more than 100 local election officials – in the days before the US election last year. Within hours of it being published, the person that allegedly leaked the top secret intelligence was arrested by the FBI. Reality Winner, an NSA contractor, faces up to 10 years in prison if the Trump administration pursues its complaint that she violated the Espionage Act.

We spoke with Reality Winner's mother: "I never thought this would be something she would do. I mean, she has expressed to me that she is not a fan of Trump – but she's not someone who would go and riot or picket."

Keep reading for the rest of the top stories this morning, with more news from around Australia and the world.
