This is early research to demonstrate new potential of an Administrative Data Census and the type of analysis that is possible by linking different administrative datasets. The analysis investigates the ability of currently available data sources to produce estimates of ethnicity at local authority level using the Generalised Structure Preserving Estimator (GSPREE) approach. These Research Outputs are not official statistics. Migration levels: What do you know about your area? Migration is a topic which often features in newspaper column inches and on our television screens. Yesterday it was revealed that in the year ending March 2017 net migration (the balance between immigration – those entering the UK for a year or more, and emigration – those leaving the UK for a year or more) was estimated to be +246,000. Also, it was reported that across the UK 1 in 7 people were born outside the UK and 1 in 11 people were non-British nationals in 2016. But the picture of migration is more complex; migration affects some local areas more than others. What do you think the levels are like in your local area? | | In 2016 the five local authorities with the largest proportions of non-British nationals were all in London. The UK region with the lowest proportion of non-British nationals is North East England (4%). Explore our map, showing the percentage of non-British population. | Use our barcode interactive to compare your area with the rest of the UK. | | | |
