The number of women working part-time is often said to be a reason behind the overall pay gap, which is 18% in favour of men. But women working full-time earn less, on average, than men in all major occupation groups, even those where women outnumber men. Five out of six full-time primary school and nursery teachers are women, but women in these jobs earn less than men. 40% of full-time medical practitioners are women, and these women earn 29% less, on average, than men in this field. 83% of full-time receptionists are women, and these women earn 4% more, on average, than men in the same jobs. |
