New major supercluster of galaxies  

The Vela supercluster had gone unnoticed due to its location behind the plane of the Milky Way, where dust and stars obscure the view.

New view of Ceres, as Dawn moves higher

Remember the famous Ceres bright spots? Some thought they looked like signs of an alien intelligence. Here's a recent view from new angle, by the Dawn spacecraft.

Where's the moon? Last quarter

Fun time to see a last quarter moon: just after it rises, shortly after midnight. Then the lighted portion points downward, to the sun below your feet.

Last quarter moon 3rd of 4 this season

Usually there are 3 last quarter moons in a season. Today's last quarter moon is the 4th between the September equinox and December solstice.

Tonight … Orion the Hunter easy to view 

In late November and early December, people begin to notice Orion and comment on it. It'll climb over your eastern horizon by around 9 p.m. tonight.

Orion the Hunter now easy to view

You can identify the constellation Orion the Hunter easily!  Look east in the evening now for a short, straight line of three medium-bright stars.
