Snowball Earth due to plate tectonics?
New research suggests that as great land plates began to shift and move on Earth's surface, our world became what geologists call a Snowball Earth.
Earth and Jupiter are closest May 10
We went between Jupiter and the sun last night according to clocks in North America. But the giant planet will be closest to us tomorrow. Why?

NASA's Terra satellite acquired this image on May 6. Massive sulfur dioxide plumes from Kilauea volcano are shown here in yellow and green. A smaller, but thicker, sulfur dioxide gas plume can be seen coming from Kilauea. The prevailing trade winds blow the plumes to the southwest, out over the ocean. Image via NASA.

In 2018, Jupiter lies in front of the faint constellation Libra the Scales. The closest star to Jupiter is Zubenelgenubi, Libra's alpha star. Jupiter looks over 100 times brighter to us than this bright star!
