Welcome to the latest edition of the monthly PHE Statistics bulletin.

PHE Statistics is a summary of the latest official statistics releases published by PHE, arranged by topic. The bulletin will also feature any recent ad hoc statistical publications.

Bulletins will routinely be published on the first Tuesday of each month or as soon as possible afterwards.

General public health

Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF): May 2018 data update

See the latest, May 2018 PHOF commentary blog for a summary of what's new in this update. 

Health Profiles: May 2018 data update

Annual update of indicators in the Health Profiles online tool.

Indicators in the Health Profiles are taken from other published PHE profiles, mainly the PHOF.  Updates to indicators in the online tool are made at the same time as they are published in their originating profiles.

Wider Determinants of Health: May 2018 update

England and local authority level data on the broad range of individual, social and environmental factors which influence health.

This update includes four new indicators; average weekly earnings, gender pay gap, households with problem debt and job density. It shows:

  • the lowest 10% of earners earn less than £138.80 per week, while the top 10% earn more than £971.20 per week
  • across England in 2017, the pay gap was 19.1%
  • from 2014 to 2016, 5.8% of households in England had problem debt; down from 7.9% in the period 2010 to 2012
  • job density has been steadily increasing post-recession, rising from 0.80 jobs per person in 2013 to 0.85 in 2016 in England.

Cancer

Emergency presentations of cancer: quarterly data

Quarterly data for July to September 2017 and an update of the one year rolling average. 

Cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Diabetes foot care profiles: annual update, 2018 

Annual update of Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) level information regarding people with diabetes who were admitted to hospital for foot disease.

The diabetes foot care profiles include a range of analysis covering risk, treatment and outcomes, highlighting any variations between areas. 

Cardiovascular disease profiles: May 2018 update

This update adds another page in the diabetes narrative report, containing analysis on achievement of the care process targets, taken from the most recent National Diabetes Audit (NDA) publication. Related indicator data has also been added to the profile tool.

Child health

Child obesity and excess weight: small area level data

Annual update to add the latest National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) academic year data for middle super output areas (MSOAs), electoral wards and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), together with local authority and England figures for comparison. Data is presented by area of child residence using rolling 3-year combined NCMP data to show small area trends from 2008/2009 up to the 2016/2017

This update shows:

  • there is variation in child obesity and excess weight prevalence at small area level throughout England
  • children living in the most deprived areas are at the highest risk of obesity

Breastfeeding at 6 to 8 weeks after birth: 2017 to 2018 quarterly data

Number and proportion of infants who have been fully, partially or not at all breastfed at 6 to 8 weeks after birth. This update includes data for quarter 3 (October 2017 to December 2017) and a refresh of data for previous quarters.
