NFL #MyCauseMyCleats

The NFL has launched a My Cause, My Cleats campaign where players across the league are permitted to wear special cleats that express causes near and dear to their heart. Two Oakland Raiders players have chosen lupus - defensive end Khalil Mack and offensive tackle Austin Howard. Players have the opportunity to auction off the cleats after the game with 100 percent of the proceeds going to their designated charity.

As part of our advocacy and awareness work, we recently unveiled a fact sheet that we worked with Research!America to develop and produce. The fact sheet tells the lupus story from multiple perspectives: prevalence, economic impact, research funding and promising developments on the horizon, as well as a personal story to highlight the true impact of the disease.

In this video, researchers share their perspective on the progress and hope for solving the cruel mystery of lupus through research presented at the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Annual Scientific Meeting. Thirty researchers funded by the LFA presented at the conference, including seven young investigators.

21st Century Cures Act Signed into Law 

Today, President Barack Obama signed the 21st Century Cures Act into law. There are many key provisions in this new law that we care about, but we must continue to play a role in helping to shape implementation. And, we must continue to advocate to elevate lupus on the nation's healthcare agenda.

Make your year end gift by December 31!

Answer

Try to find some form of exercise that you can stick with during the winter months, as regular exercise will often help with fatigue. If you can do some of this outside, the fresh air could be invigorating and will prevent feelings of "cabin fever," or being stuck indoors. Also, try to promote your own positive outlook by focusing on the good things in your life. A gratitude practice can help with this—take a minute each morning or evening to write down three things you are grateful for. Cultivate laughter by reading or watching something funny on a regular basis, or spending time with people that make you laugh. Read more on winter wellness
