Antarctica has 12 million penguins and 5 penguin species, according to a new report released today. But at least 2 penguin species have recently and significantly declined. World Penguin Day is timed with their annual march to the sea. Click in for penguin photos.

Cassini completes final, fateful Titan flyby

Thanks to the Titan flyby, Cassini is now in position for its daring Grand Finale, during which it'll dive 22 times between Saturn's outer atmosphere and inner rings. First dive is Wednesday. Good luck, Cassini!

Tonight … Leo loses his tail. We gain a constellation

Leo's tail was a clump of faint stars. Now we see these stars as Coma Berenices, the hair of a queen.

Raining stars

Although they're called shooting stars, meteors aren't star-related. They're really comet dust. John Ashley created this beautiful and fanciful composite image of the April 22 Lyrid meteor shower peak.

Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko
