United Airlines passenger forcibly removed from overbooked flight

Good morning, and welcome to the Morning Mail.

Among the most read stories on our website this morning: A man was violently removed from a United Airlines flight by aviation police officials in Chicago, in an incident captured on video by several other passengers.

The airline said in a statement that the flight was overbooked, and that no passengers agreed to voluntarily give up their seats, so the airline chose for them. In one video, guards can be seen aggressively grabbing the screaming passenger, and then dragging him down the aisle of the plane with blood running from this mouth.

Keep reading for the rest of the top stories this morning, with more news from around Australia and the world.

One last thing

How one teen's plea for free nuggets became one of the biggest tweets everAll Carter Wilkerson wanted was some free chicken nuggets – now he has one of the most retweeted tweets of all time. The 16-year-old's tweet is catching up on Ellen DeGeneres's Oscars selfie but still has a way to go to get the 18m retweets needed for a year of free chicken nuggets.
