Study discovers fundamental unit of cell size in bacteria

By applying mathematical models to a large number of experiments in which bacterial growth is inhibited, a team of physicists, biologists and bioengineers from the University of California, San Diego, developed a 'general growth law' that explains the relationship between the average cell size of bacteria and how fast they grow.
