Fired FBI director James Comey said he took Trump's overtures related to Flynn "as a direction" to drop the investigation. "I didn't obey that. But that's what I thought," Comey said, recalling the conversation. "I've seen the tweet about tapes. Lordy, I hope there are tapes." Of the president's decision to fire him, Comey said that he now believes he was fired to relieve pressure on the Russia investigation. "I take the president at his word that I was fired because of the Russia investigation. I take him at his word, based on what I know now."
