In step toward 'controlling chemistry,' physicists create a new type of molecule, atom by atom

Using lasers, ion traps and ultra-cold atom traps, the University of California, Los Angeles, physicists have created a new type of molecule. Barium-oxygen-calcium (BaOCa+) is highly unusual, the first molecule composed of an oxygen atom bonded to two different metal atoms.
