UK consumer price inflation: September 2017

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) 12-month inflation rate was 2.8% in September 2017, up from 2.7% in August 2017; it was last higher in March 2012.

The main contributors to the increase in the rate were rising prices for food and recreational goods, along with transport costs, which fell by less than they did a year ago.

Producer price inflation, UK: September 2017

The headline rate of inflation for goods leaving the factory gate (output prices) rose 3.3% on the year to September 2017, from 3.4% in August 2017.

Prices for materials and fuels (input prices) rose 8.4% on the year to September 2017, which is unchanged from August 2017.

Upward contributions from energy were offset by downward contributions from other industries, resulting in little change in the annual rates for both input and output prices.

UK house price index: August 2017

Average house prices in the UK have increased by 5.0% in the year to August 2017 (up from 4.5% in July 2017). The annual growth rate has slowed since mid-2016 but has remained broadly under 5% during 2017.

The average UK house price was £226,000 in August 2017. This is £11,000 higher than in August 2016 and £1,000 higher than last month.

Prices economic commentary: October 2017

The 12-month growth rate for consumer prices including owner occupiers' housing costs has increased to 2.8% in September.

The 12-month growth in input producer prices has slowed from its recent peak of 19.9% in January 2017, but remains at 8.4% in September 2017.

Growth in core input and output producer prices (excluding food, energy and tobacco products) have slowed from recent peaks, but growth in core consumer prices continues to rise.

Index of Private Housing Rental Prices, Great Britain: September 2017

Private rental prices paid by tenants in Great Britain rose by 1.6% in the 12 months to September 2017; this is unchanged from August 2017.

In England, private rental prices grew by 1.6%, Wales saw growth of 1.4% while Scotland saw rental prices increase by 0.3% in the 12 months to September 2017.

The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 6 October 2017 (week 40) was 9,778; this represents an increase of 89 deaths registered in comparison with the previous week (week 39).

The average number of deaths for the corresponding week over the previous 5 years was 9,248.
