The Compact Muon Solenoid at the Large Hadron Collider

In a paper published today in Physical Review Letters, Jesse Thaler, an associate professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his colleagues used the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) data to reveal, for the first time, a universal feature within jets of subatomic particles, which are produced when high-energy protons collide. Their effort represents the first independent, published analysis of the CMS open data.
