Omnibus: committee vote on outcome of inter-institutional negotiations

The Committee on Regional Development will vote on the outcome of the inter-institutional negotiations on those parts of the "Omnibus" proposal where the Committee was granted exclusive competence as opinion-giving committee, namely articles 262, 264 and 265. Important improvements for beneficiaries (simplification of procedures and the possibility to combine funding from different sources) are expected once the proposed regulation is adopted. The meeting will be held on 14.12.17.




11th WTO Ministerial Conference: committee mission

A delegation led by International Trade Committee Chair Bernd Lange, will join the EU delegation to the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference that will take place from 10.12 to 13.12.17, in Buenos Aires. The aim is to advance the global trade agenda and strengthen a rules-based and fair multilateral trading system. Parliament is also co-organising the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO, bringing together 300 members in the Congress of Argentina, ahead of the Ministerial Conference.




EU administrative law: public consultation on citizens' expectations

EU law establishes citizens' rights to an open, independent and efficient EU administration. The Committee on Legal Affairs is therefore launching a 12-week consultation process to determine what the public expects regarding its relations with the EU's administration. To this end, individuals, companies, professors, universities and any other institution interested in taking part in the consultation can complete a questionnaire which will made available through the link below, as of 15.12.17.

Technological progress and workplace digitalisation have resulted in the emergence of the collaborative or platform economy. In this edition of the Policy Department's Monthly Highlights, EMPL Vice-Chair Marita Ulvskog presents the latest study on the topic, pointing out the related benefits for workers and social protection challenges. Other topics featured include the working conditions of drivers, countering terrorist narratives, the use of financial instruments, and the Africa-EU strategy.
