Special committee on authorisation procedure for pesticides: plenary vote on mandate

The European Parliament is set to vote on the mandate of a new special committee on the EU's authorisation procedure for pesticides, during its plenary sitting of 06.02.18 in Strasbourg. Parliament decided to set up this special committee following concerns regarding the risks related to glyphosate. The special committee will be composed of 30 members with a term of office of 9 months.

New anti-terror legislation and policies have been adopted at national and EU level following recent terror attacks, says LIBE Committee Chair Claude Moraes, who presents a new study on EU and national policies on persons suspected of terrorism-related crimes. Other topics featured in this month's Policy Departments' Monthly Highlights include: transitional allowances for former EU office holders, Serbia's international outlook, personalised medicine, and China's new Silk Route initiative.




eu-LISA and the management of EU databases: committee debate

The Committee on Terrorism will look into the role of eu-LISA in the management of EU databases, together its Executive Director Krum Garkov, on 08.02.18. eu-LISA, the European Agency for the operational management of large-scale IT systems in the area of freedom, security and justice, is currently managing Eurodac, the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II) and the Visa Information System (VIS), and is developing the Entry/Exit System and ensuring its operational management.




Geo-blocking and other forms of discrimination: plenary debate and vote

The report on geo-blocking and other forms of discrimination based on customers' nationality, place of residence or of establishment, tabled by the Committee on Internal Market, will be discussed and voted by Parliament on 05-06.02.18. Amongst other things, the proposed regulation defines situations when there can be no justified reason for discrimination on grounds of nationality or residence, and bans the blocking of access to websites and the use of automatic re-routing without prior consent.
