Breaking: White House imposes new sanctions on 38 individuals and companies close to Russian President Vladimir Putin

  The sanctions were in response to the Kremlin's "malign activities," according to senior administration officials, who singled out such acts as the annexation of Crimea, the supplying of weapons to the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad and the meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections as well as money laundering.
