Trump in Davos: 'America is open for business' "President Trump on Friday touted the growth of the American economy since his election, and told countries and business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that the U.S. is 'open for business' now that his administration has slashed regulations and lowered corporate taxes," Sarah Westwood writes in Washington Examiner. "The world is witnessing the resurgence of a strong and prosperous America," President Trump said. Click here to read more. ------------ The Associated Press reports that "the U.S. economy grew at a solid rate of 2.6 percent in the final three months of last year." Furthermore, "economists are looking for even better growth this year, propelled by the $1.5 trillion tax cut that President Donald Trump pushed through Congress in December," Martin Crutsinger writes. ------------ Alfredo Ortiz writes in USA Today that "President Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address next week, chronicling the many successes of 2017. You can expect the economy to loom large — and for good reason." Noting that "with his pro-growth agenda, Trump has delivered economic prosperity to millions of Americans," Ortiz celebrates: "We have plenty to celebrate on Tuesday night because of him." ------------ "With Home Depot and Starbucks moving to offer employees bonuses as a result of President Trump's tax reform package, the total number of firms rewarding workers has reached 250, a jump of 525 percent in just two weeks," Washington Examiner reports. "The companies have credited the tax changes for plans to offer bonuses of up to $3,000, increases in retirement plans, wage hikes and even adoption benefits," Paul Bedard writes. ------------ Reuters reports that FedEx "will spend more than $3.2 billion on wage increases, bonuses, pension funding and capital investment, taking advantage of the U.S. tax overhaul signed into law in December." Eric M. Johnson writes that "the announcement makes FedEx the latest U.S. company to promise higher pay for workers, citing the tax cuts." ------------ In RealClearPolicy, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos joins Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) in writing that "choice does not mean elevating any one type of school over another. Rather, it is about providing a diverse and dynamic menu of high-quality and innovative offerings from which families can choose." In recognition of National School Choice Week, they explain that it is "a time for us to celebrate those schools and innovative learning organizations that are giving students a better chance: public charter, private, magnet, faith-based, home, districts with open enrollment, virtual, and many traditional public schools."
