Polymer additive could revolutionize plastics recycling

A group of NSF-funded researchers have developed a polymer that, when added in small measure to a mix of the normally incompatible plastics polyethylene and polypropylene, creates a new and mechanically tough polymer.  This change in chemistry could be key to making it easier to recycle plastics that currently often go into landfills.
