Good morning, and welcome to the Morning Mail.

Among the stories leading our website this morning: GreenLeft was the big winner in the Dutch election, leaping from four MPs to 14 in the 150-seat parliament, topping the bill in Amsterdam and overtaking the stricken social democratic PvdA to become the largest party of the left nationally. The party's jubilant leader, 30-year-old Jesse Klaver, has celebrated the pushback against far-right populism: "Stand for your principles. Be straight. Be pro-refugee. Be pro-European. We're gaining momentum in the polls. You can stop populism."

Keep reading for the rest of the top stories this morning, with more news from around Australia and the world.
