The Answers to NASA's Pi Day Challenge Are Here! The Education Office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has released the official answers to its fourth annual Pi Day Challenge. The illustrated answer key is available to view online and download as a free poster. The NASA Pi Day Challenge is an annual math puzzler created in honor of the March 14 holiday celebrating the mathematical constant pi – but it's applicable all year! The illustrated math problem set features real problems NASA scientists and engineers must solve to explore space. It's designed to get students excited about math and its applications beyond the classroom. In this year's puzzler, participants can use pi to deduce the angle of crater impacts on Mars, measure the size of the shadow that will fall on North America during the 2017 total solar eclipse, determine the orbital period of the Cassini spacecraft during its final weeks around Saturn, and find the habitable zone around TRAPPIST-1, a star that is home to seven Earth-size planets!
