People, population and community Avoidable mortality in England and Wales: 2015 In 2015, approximately 23% of all deaths were from causes considered avoidable (119,485 deaths out of 529,655 deaths). There were significant overall increases in the avoidable mortality rate for respiratory diseases and injuries, driven by an increase in Wales. Deaths from neoplasms were the leading cause of avoidable deaths accounting for over a third (35%) of all avoidable deaths in 2015. UK Health Accounts: 2015 Total current healthcare expenditure in 2015 was £185.0 billion, an increase of 3.6% on spending in 2014, which was £178.6 billion. Government-financed healthcare expenditure accounted for 79.5% of total spending at £147.1 billion. Spending on preventive healthcare was £9.6 billion in 2015, and was spent mainly on healthy condition monitoring programmes and advice, education and counselling programmes. |
