Good morning, and welcome to the Morning Mail.

Among the stories leading our website this morning: In an interview with Fox Business, Donald Trump has claimed he told Chinese president Xi Jinping that he had launched missile strikes on Syria as the pair ate "the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you have ever seen".

Trump also had to be corrected by the interviewer when recounting the story about how he told Xi "we've just launched 59 missiles, heading to Iraq".

Keep reading for the rest of the top stories this morning, with more news from around Australia and the world.
