How inflation changes how much your wages are worth

Workers have started to feel the squeeze in their finances, after wage growth recently fell below inflation for the first time since 2014.

In April 2017, inflation rose to 2.6% year-on-year, while 3-month average wage growth was 2.1% over the same time period.

This time last year, wage growth was similar (2.2%) but workers enjoyed the benefits of a low rate of inflation (0.7%).
