Probing the magnetic universe

Nuno Loureiro has spent his first year and a half at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Plasma Science and Fusion Center exploring the magnetic processes crucial to understanding how to sustain fusion in a tokamak like the Center's Alcator C-Mod project. Now, he is also looking beyond the fusion vacuum chamber to the edges of the universe, seeking an answer to how the universe magnetizes itself.
