Hidden river once flowed under Antarctica
"Ice, by itself, is only capable of flowing at velocities of no more than tens of meters per year. That means the ice is being helped along. It's sliding on water or mud or both."
Tonight … Look toward our galaxy's center
On the night of August 26, a waxing crescent moon will set in early evening. So you'll have dark time to find the Teapot asterism and let it guide you to our Milky Way's center.
Star of the week: Deneb
Deneb is one of the most distant stars you'll ever see with your eye alone.
The hunt for asteroids
Short video from NASA about the hunt for potentially hazardous asteroids and comets, and ways to defend Earth against them.

Tonight … Look toward our galaxy's center
View larger. | Milky Way over Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming. Many astrophotographers visited Wyoming to view the August 21 total solar eclipse. Chirag Upreti shot this image on August 22. He said: "The Milky Way was near vertical over the Teton range, casting a reflection on Jackson Lake! On the lake shore, the silhouettes of some astrophotographers can be seen as they snap away this gorgeous view."
