Stand with Harry in his fight

Support the MGH Fund

I wish you could meet seven-year-old Harry Burns. He's a boy on a mission. We first met Harry when he arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital when he was just about to turn five. We were amazed as we watched him immediately start playing and running around.

You'd never know he was sick and fighting cancer.

In April of 2015, Harry, who has Down syndrome, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which commonly afflicts those with Down syndrome. Harry's mom, Elizabeth, and his dad, Bryan, brought Harry to Mass General to receive chemotherapy, which required weekly visits to the hospital.

Now, two years into his treatment plan, Harry is fighting hard to beat leukemia … and inspiring others to make a difference, too.

He's going strong. His cancer is in remission. And he's approaching the finish line.

I know it's been some time since you last made a gift, but will you be inspired by Harry's story to take action and continue your ongoing support of the MGH Fund today with a tax-deductible gift of $35, $50 or $100?

Your generous donation will help more patients like Harry in their battles against disease. You'll give strength to families who are standing beside their loved ones. And you'll help us meet the most urgent needs across Mass General.

Throughout his treatment, Harry has received therapeutic support to reduce anxiety, while his siblings, Benjamin and Sammy, worked closely with Child Life specialists at Mass General to understand and cope with Harry's illness. These are just a few examples of the kind of therapies we provide for children and their families.

And of course, there are our innovative treatments for patients, backed by research and delivered with compassion by our caring medical professionals.

Harry's father, Bryan, feels that the Mass General pediatric cancer team, led by Howard Weinstein, MD, Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, has become like an extended family.

"Harry is getting literally the best care available anywhere," Bryan said. "Dr. Weinstein, Harry's pediatric oncologist, and his team are very important and are central to our story and success. They are amazing, caring people."

With your renewed commitment to the MGH Fund, you can play an important role in the story for other patients, just like Harry, fighting for their lives right now at Mass General.

Together, with your renewed support of the MGH Fund, we'll be here standing beside them every step of the way — and helping more children, women and men fight their diseases. So please make your renewal gift of $35, $50 or $100 right now.

Sincerely,
Peter L. Slavin, MD
Peter L. Slavin, MD
President, Massachusetts General Hospital

P.S. I hope I can count on you again to help Harry and so many other patients by making a renewal gift of $35, $50 or $100 to the MGH Fund today. On behalf of every child like Harry, and every family like the Burns family, I thank you.
