Reminders You May Need
Data Science Opportunities:

NIH made 12 awards to support the NIH Data Commons Pilot Phase. The goal of the NIH Data Commons Pilot Phase is to accelerate biomedical discoveries by making biomedical research data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) for more researchers. The BD2K-LINCS DCIC is currently accepting applications for the BD2K-LINCS DCIC 2018 Summer Research Training Program in Biomedical Big Data Science, a research intensive ten-week training program for undergraduate and graduate students. Please visit http://www.lincsproject.org/LINCS/news to learn more or to register.

Summer Research Program in Biomedical Big Data Science June - August 2018 – The Summer Research Training Program in Biomedical Big Data Science sponsored by the BD2K-LINCS Data Coordination and Integration Center (DCIC) is a research-intensive ten-week training program for undergraduate and graduate students interested in participating in cutting edge research projects aimed at solving data-intensive biomedical problems. Applications are being accepted now, and are due February 1, 2018.

New RNA-Seq Data Resource Now Available. BD2K-grantee, Dr. Avi Ma'ayan, and colleagues, recently developed all RNA-seq and ChIP-seq sample and signature search (ARCHS4), a web resource that makes the majority of previously published RNA-seq data from human and mouse freely available at the gene count level. ARCHS4 is freely accessible from: http://amp.pharm.mssm.edu/archs4.

NIAID is offering an exciting fellowship opportunity in data science for recent graduates (past 5 years) who are interested in acquiring a unique training experience involving rotations throughout the Institute to either intramural or extramural programs engaged in data-intensive science.

Save the Date: The Center for Causal Discovery Summer Short Course on Causal Discovery and Datathon will be held June 11-15, 2018. Our short course is appropriate for both biomedical and data scientists at the level of graduate students on up who seek training in causal discovery and graphical modeling of biomedical data. Our datathon is designed to instruct and challenge biomedical researchers on the use and application of causal modeling and discovery tools in a "bring your own data event". Details, prerequisites, and videos of past presentations for both the short course and datathon can be found at the 2017 website.

The Data Science and Visualization Institute for Librarians is a week-long course providing the opportunity for librarians passionate about research and scholarship to immerse themselves in learning about data science and visualization in collaboration with academic peers. Participants will develop knowledge, skills, and confidence to communicate effectively with faculty and student researchers about their data and be able to provide initial consultancy on the course topics. Led by expert instructors, sessions will be interactive and will focus on mastery of core concepts, with hands-on exposure to select open source and highly used commercial tools. Sharing of practices and experiences across institutions will be encouraged.
