11-12-2017 05:20 PM CET On 8 December, the Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, Mr Pier Antonio Panzeri, commemorated and honoured the victims of the crime of genocide and urged that the international community act. "In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, initiated by Armenia, establishing 9 December as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. 9 December is the anniversary of the adoption of the 1948 Genocide Convention. The purpose of this International Day is to draw attention to the role of the Genocide Convention in combating and preventing genocide and to commemorate and honour its victims."
