The non-legislative report on the implementation of the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) in the Member States will be discussed by the European Parliament during its plenary sitting of 17.01.18 and voted on 18.01.18. The report as tabled by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs notes that the YEI has led to youth unemployment becoming a shared EU policy priority. Nevertheless, tackling youth unemployment remains a challenge in a number of Member States.

The European Parliament will discuss and vote the report on the implementation of the Professional Qualifications Directive and the need for reform in professional services, during its plenary sitting of 18.01.18. The report as adopted by the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection focuses on recommendations to ensure transparent, non-discriminatory and proportionate regulation of professions, while ensuring high quality of the service provided.

The Budgetary Control Committee will go over the budget implementation of the European External Action Service for 2016 with High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. It will also look into the main achievements and impact of the European Investment Bank Group's financing for 2016 with EIB Vice-President Alexander Stubb, in view of the annual report on the control of the EIB's financial activities for the same year. The meeting will take place on 18.01.18.

Road transport continues to remain a dominant mode of transport in the EU. This month's edition of the Policy Departments' Monthly Highlights features Transport Committee Chair Karima Delli highlighting the importance of reducing road fatalities, lower emissions of pollutants and decrease fossil fuel use. Other topics dealt with in this issue include the next MFF, the EU's market access strategy, and post-Brexit settlements of disputes and impact on energy.
