Union Civil Protection Mechanism: committee debate

Commissioner Christos Stylianides discusses the worsening humanitarian crises in Syria and Iraq as a result of the violence by the Islamic State.
The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will look into the Commission's proposal on amending the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, under which the EU supports, coordinates and supplements Member States' actions in civil protection in order to prevent, prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters within and outside the Union. The meeting will take place on 11.01.18, together with Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Commissioner, Christos Stylianides.




Court of Auditors membership: hearing of candidates

The Committee on Budgetary Control will hold hearings of the candidate members nominated to the European Court of Auditors, on 11.01.18. Irish candidate Tony James Murphy and Swedish candidate Eva Lindström, will be heard for their first mandate. The hearings will be followed by a vote behind closed doors, the results of which will be announced immediately after.

The Committees on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will hold a hearing on the implementation of the Directive on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime, aiming to ensure recognition, respect, support and access to justice. The hearing, which will be held on 11.01.18, will give input to a report analysing the extent to which the Directive brings real change for victims and proposing recommendations for more effective support.

Parliament's committees will meet representatives of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union to discuss its priorities in relation to the committees' respective areas of responsibility. These meetings will start taking place during the week of 08.01.18. The Bulgarian Presidency started in the beginning of January and runs until the end of June 2018.
