Rainstorm pounds Bay Area roadways — flooding, wrecks reported

A rainstorm that moved through the Bay Area early Monday - and might shape up to be the wettest of the season - caused havoc on highways as vehicles hydroplaned and crashed. Authorities reported flooding in some spot, while warning of potential mudslides in North Bay areas scarred by October's fires. Showers started throughout the Bay Area just after midnight, with the most rain hitting Hayward, Foster City, San Mateo and Oakland, which received nearly half an inch by 6 a.m., said Roger Gass, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. San Francisco had received .36 inches by 6 a.m.
