Launched in 2001, it marked the beginning of new agricultural negotiations: WTO members committed themselves to securing substantial improvements in market access and to the gradual withdrawal of all forms of export subsidies in trade-distorting domestic support, with due account being taken of the need for developing countries to be granted special and differential treatment.
