Endocrine system vector (pituitary gland, pineal gland, testicle, ovary, pancreas, thyroid, thymus, adrenal gland and other).
On 22 March, PETI and ENVI will hold a joint public hearing on the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on public health and the environment, due to the high number of petitions received on the topic. Members will listen to experts from EU and national regulatory agencies, academia, and civil society. The hearing will consist of two panels, focusing on the specificities of the EU regulatory approval process for EDCs, and whether it could be conceived differently in the future.

On 20 March, the ENVI Committee will consider the above draft report. The Union Civil protection Mechanism has been put under particular strain when large-scale emergencies have affected several Member States simultaneously. The proposal will allow EU to acquire its own operational capacities and to set up arrangements for ensuring rapid access to those capacities. This dedicated reserve of assets (RescEU) would help cover existing gaps at national level.

The proposal also creates a stronger link between risk assessments identification and risk management planning. The rapporteur seeks among others to increase the flexibility in the definition of the assets which will make up RescEU in order to adopt a needs-based approach. She also introduces the concept of a Civil Protection Erasmus.

On 20 March, the ENVI Committee will vote on the above draft motion for resolution. Vaccine hesitancy refers to delay in acceptance or refusal of vaccines despite availability of vaccination services. Vaccination is unquestionably one of the most cost-effective public health measures available. All EU countries recommend vaccination against serious, sometimes life-threatening diseases. However, some vaccines remain undervalued and under-utilized.

Widespread vaccine hesitancy has become a worrying phenomenon due to the range of health-related consequences it causes in the Member States. Recent epidemiological data on the situation of vaccination in the Member States shows a significant drop in the use of vaccines.

Plastic trash
On 20 March, the ENVI Committee will hold an EoV with Stakeholders on the above. This EoV is organised in the context of ENVI's work on its own-initiative report on a European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy.

The Commission Communication, published on 16 January, is part of the Circular Economy Package and proposes a set of measures to improve the economics and quality of plastics recycling, curb plastic waste and littering, drive innovation and investment towards circular solutions and harness global action. The strategy also identifies key actions for national and regional authorities, and the industry. The draft opinion will be discussed in ENVI on 25 April.
