European Citizens Initiative: committee debate

The Committee on Constitutional Affairs will look into the draft report on the new legislative proposal for the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI), on 21.03.18. The report aims to, amongst others, provide more flexibility and support to the organisers of an ECI, oblige the Commission to deliver a detailed analysis and justification should it refuse to register an initiative, enhance the political follow-up by the Commission of successful initiatives, and enhance the transparency of ECI funding.




Waste management: committee debate on petitions

The Committee on Petitions will look into a number of issues related to waste and waste management in the EU, particularly on the creation, management and impact assessment of landfill sites, following petitions received on these issues. It will also go over a recent study on waste management in Europe, which focuses on main problems and best practices. The meeting will take place on 21.03.18.

A workshop entitled "A fiscal capacity to strengthen and enlarge the euro area - Budgetary aspects for stabilising Economic and Monetary Union" will be held for the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs on 21.03.18. The workshop will allow for a discussion with experts on the budgetary aspects of the Commission's package for completing Europe's Economic and Monetary Union.




Protecting the rights of victims of terrorism in the EU: public hearing

The Committee on Terrorism will hold a hearing on the protection of the rights of victims of terrorism in the EU, on 21.03.18. The debates will seek to tackle the issues that are still at stake to ensure that the rights of victims are properly safeguarded. They will also address current loopholes in various areas of EU legislation, including in terms of cross-border situations, access to justice and adequate support, awareness raising, and appropriate coordination at EU level.

Brexit and future trade relations: public hearing

The Committee on International Trade will hold a public hearing with experts on the future EU-UK trade relations, on 21.03.18. The discussions will focus on the economic impact of the UK withdrawal on mutual trade and its wider implications, including the effects on EU trade agreements with third countries and options for transition periods after the exit date. Related issues of, amongst others, market access, rules of origin, customs union and dispute settlement, will also be looked into.




Encounters between science and management in fisheries: public hearing

The Committee on Fisheries will hold a public hearing on encounters between science and management in fisheries, focusing on the fixation of Total Allowable Catches (TACs) on fish stocks. The regular TACs setting process, from the requests for scientific advice to the final Council decisions, will be looked into together with representatives of scientific bodies, stakeholders and the non-governmental organisations. The meeting will be held on 21.03.18.
