Coming up in committees 17-04-2018 07:17 PM CEST The Hague Judgments Project: public hearing; debates with Commissioners JURI - 16-04-2018 - 19:32 The Committee on Legal Affairs will hold discussions with Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and with Justice Commissioner Jourová on 24.04.18. These debates will be followed by a public hearing on the Hague Judgments Project, during which ongoing negotiations on a world-wide convention on the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters will be discussed. Further information JURI hearing programme Preventing and countering radicalisation: public hearing TERR - 17-04-2018 - 19:15 The Committee on Terrorism will hold a hearing focusing on the reasons for radicalisation and how they affect people with different social backgrounds throughout the European society. The discussions will also go over the likely triggers for becoming a terrorist, best practices in tackling radicalisation, and specific aspects of preventing the latter in prisons. The role of social media will also be looked into. This hearing with experts, academics and civil society will take place on 24.04.18. Further information TERR hearing programme Combat of money laundering in the EU banking system: public hearing TAX3 - 17-04-2018 - 19:16 The Special Committee on Financial Crimes, tax evasion and tax avoidance will hold a public hearing entitled "Combat of Money Laundering in the EU banking system". The aim of the hearing is to acquire a more complete and detailed understanding of the risks posed by money laundering in the EU banking sector with a view to improving the supervisory system and reducing these risks. The hearing will take place on 26.04.18. Further information TAX3 hearing programme The EU budget and the Paris climate agreement: public hearing BUDG - ENVI - 17-04-2018 - 19:16 The Committee on Budgets and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will hold a public hearing on the EU budget and the Paris Climate Agreement, on 24.04.18. The objective of the hearing is to assess the compatibility of the current and future EU budgets with the Paris climate agreement. It also aims to identify the distribution of climate action spending, to assess the extent to which the 20% commitment has been fulfilled, and to discuss future challenges. Further information BUDG/ENVI hearing programme Fact Sheet on the Union's expenditure Fact Sheet on climate change and the environment Tourism Task Force - public hearing on the impact of Brexit on tourism TRAN - 17-04-2018 - 19:15 The Tourism Task Force of the Transport and Tourism Committee will hold a hearing on 25.04.18 to analyse the post-Brexit impact on travel and tourism flows between the UK and EU, which are facilitated by free movement across the EU. Whilst for the UK, tourism is the fifth largest export industry, UK tourists are equally crucial for the EU27. Health services, employment, long term stays, duty free, roaming, freedom of movements and the Consumer Rights Directive are also potentially affected. Further information TRAN hearing programme Brexit negotiations Website of the European Commission Taskforce on Article 50 negotiations with the United Kingdom WTO - the way forward after Buenos Aires: public hearing INTA - 17-04-2018 - 19:16 The International Trade Committee will hold a hearing with experts, following the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation in Buenos Aires, which ended without any negotiated outcome. The WTO is however under pressure due to escalating tensions between major trading partners. The hearing will take place on 24.04.18, together with WTO Deputy-Director General Frederic Agah and experts from China, the US, India and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development.
