A seven-Member BUDG mission, chaired by MEP Eider Gardiazábal Rubial (S&D), will travel to the Basque Country, Spain, on 7 and 8 May 2018, with the aim of learning more about the concrete use of EU financial support, assessing the quality of its implementation and effectiveness on the ground, and evaluating concrete EU funded projects and future regional needs as regards the next multiannual financial framework starting in 2021.

Members will hold official meetings with regional Ministers and relevant city and provincial authorities, and meet local companies and stakeholders to discuss EU-funded projects, any challenges encountered and their future needs. Members will also meet with EIB representatives and discuss the implementation of EFSI and EIB programmes in the region. A visit to the local university is also included in the programme to discuss the EU-funded Horizon 2020 (research) and Erasmus+ programmes.

Upon its return, the delegation will report on its findings to the full BUDG committee.
