View in browser 21 July 2017 Economy UK public sector finances: June 2017 Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) increased by £1.9 billion to £22.8 billion in the current financial year-to-date (April 2017 to June 2017), compared with the same period in 2016. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) forecast that public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) will be £58.3 billion during the financial year ending March 2018. Economic Statistics Transformation Programme: enhanced financial accounts (UK flow of funds) improving the measurement of company quarterly profit This article describes progress made in improving the measurement of company profits using non-survey data sources. This work is part of the UK's Enhanced Financial Accounts initiative (also known as flow of funds), which is a partnership between Office for National Statistics and the Bank of England. People, population and community Overseas travel and tourism, monthly provisional results: May 2017 In May 2017, overseas residents made 3.5 million visits to the UK, a 2% drop when compared with the same month a year ago.  Meanwhile, UK residents made 5.8 million visits abroad in May 2017, a decrease of 5% when compared with May 2016. UK residents consistently make more visits abroad than foreign residents made to the UK. Find out more.   Overview of the UK population: July 2017 In 2016 the population of the UK was 65.5 million, its largest ever. The UK population is projected to continue growing, reaching over 74 million by 2039. The population in the UK is getting older with 18% aged 65 and over and 2.4% aged 85 and over. With births and immigration outnumbering deaths and emigration the population continues to grow and is also becoming older. Solar Storm Sweeps Aside Cosmic Rays

Space Weather News for July 21, 2017 http://spaceweather.com https://www.facebook.com/spaceweatherdotcom CME SWEEPS ASIDE COSMIC RAYS: On July 16th, a CME hit Earth's magnetic field, sparking two days of geomagnetic storms and beautiful auroras. The solar storm cloud also swept aside some of the cosmic rays currently surrounding our planet. A sudden decrease in deep space radiation was detected by a global network of neutron monitors as well as a space weather balloon in the stratosphere over California.
