	November 15, 2017  RELEASE 17-089 NASA's Fiscal Year 2017 Financial Audit Result NASA has received an unmodified audit opinion on its Fiscal Year 2017 (FY 2017) financial statements, making this the seventh consecutive year of "clean" opinions. The agency released its FY 2017 Agency Financial Report (AFR) Wednesday, which provides details on its financial results and performance highlights.  The auditor's unmodified opinion is that NASA's financial statements fairly present the agency's financial position and results of operations. An unmodified opinion is the highest audit opinion that may be received from an external auditor.  The AFR highlights NASA's progress toward meeting its strategic goals, including significant achievements in research aboard the International Space Station, Earth science, technology development, aeronautics research and deep space exploration.  "The constant innovations and leaps into space are not simple tasks, and they require meticulous financial planning," said acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot. "Efficient and effective financial management makes our mission possible. NASA's financial report displays exactly how American tax dollars are spent to maximize NASA's impact as a Federal agency." NASA's budget is not solely allocated to ventures in outer space – it also strengthens the nation's economy as the agency unlocks new opportunities, new technologies and new sources of prosperity, including technological advances for American defense and security. NASA also inspires children to pursue education in fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). As NASA continues to unlock the mysteries of space and ensure the nation's world preeminence in exploring the cosmos, the agency's commitment to its budget and people remains steadfast. NASA is committed to nurturing an innovative environment that fosters teamwork and excellence. For the fifth year in a row, employees named NASA the Best Place to Work in the Federal Government among large agencies.  NASA also produces an Annual Performance Report (APR) that will include more details on the important accomplishments in 2017. These images, acquired by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) operated by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) on board the ESA Mars Express spacecraft, show a region of Mars strongly shaped by volcanic activity. Traces of this activity include the striking parallel grabens that cross the region – the Sirenum Fossae.

View in browser 16 November 2017 Business, industry and trade Retail sales, Great Britain: October 2017 The underlying pattern in the retail industry in October 2017, as suggested by the three-month on three-month measure is one of growth, with the quantity bought increasing by 0.9%. The quantity bought in October 2017 increased by 0.3% compared with September 2017; non-food stores, in particular second-hand goods stores (charity shops, auction houses, antiques and fine art dealers) provided the largest contribution to this growth. The longer-term picture as shown by the year-on-year growth rate shows the quantity bought fell by 0.3% in comparison with a strong October 2016; food stores provided the largest contribution to this fall. Average store prices increased by 3.1% compared with October 2016, with the largest contribution from food stores where average prices rose by 3.5%, the largest year-on-year price increase since September 2013. Online sales values increased year-on-year by 10.7%, accounting for approximately 16.9% of all retail spending.
