Now we know Earth blocks neutrinos
"This achievement is important because it shows, for the first time, that very-high-energy neutrinos can be absorbed by something — in this case, the Earth."

Watch for this weekend's supermoon

Tomorrow's full moon will be 2017's 1st, last and only full supermoon.

When is the next Blue Moon?

Blue-colored moons are rare. But folklore has defined 2 other sorts of Blue Moons.

Hello, Small Magellanic Cloud
The Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy orbiting our Milky Way. Here it is in the light of atomic hydrogen. Whoa!
Clouds near Australia
This beautiful and unusual cloud pattern was caused by a phenomenon called "gravity waves." .
Tonight … Moon is nearly full
It's called a Long Night Moon because our nights are long now, and because this moon takes a high path across the sky. In the Southern Hemisphere ... Short Night Moon!

Tonight's moon is nearly full
And it's in front of the constellation Taurus the Bull. Despite the moon's glare, you still might be able to make out Aldebaran, Taurus' brightest star, and possibly the Pleiades star cluster. From parts of the world tonight, the moon will occult (cover) Aldebaran.

Lunar halo and clouds over Tucson
Moon rocketing into a halo? The "contrail" is just clouds, and the moon itself - plus ice crystals in the air - made this halo, which skywatchers call a 22-degree halo. Photo taken over Tucson, Arizona - November 29, 2017 - by Eliot Herman. By the way, seeing something look like what it isn't is called pareidolia.
