Economy Economic statistics transformation programme: Enhanced financial accounts (UK flow of funds) employee stock options Article discussing using HMRC data for employee stock options in the National Accounts. People, population and community Small area model-based households in poverty estimates, England and Wales: financial year ending 2014 In the financial year ending 2014, over three-quarters of small areas in England and Wales had less than 20% of households in poverty before housing costs (BHC), with an overall range from 4.9% to 53.6%. In the financial year ending 2014, of all small areas in England and Wales 55% had less than 20% of households in poverty after housing costs (AHC), with an overall range from 6.7% to 63.7%. The West Midlands region contained the highest proportion (86%) of small areas with a percentage of households in poverty (BHC) greater than the national median, closely followed by Wales (85%). Crime in England and Wales: year ending Dec 2016 Comparable figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) showed no statistically significant change compared with the previous year's survey, with an estimated 6.1 million incidents of crime in the survey year ending December 2016. Including experimental statistics on fraud and computer misuse offences, there were an estimated 11.5 million incidents of crime in the survey year ending December 2016. As questions on fraud and computer misuse were not in the previous year's survey, it is only possible to make year-on-year comparisons from the CSEW by excluding such offences. While it is too early to look at trends in fraud from the new CSEW Experimental Statistics, other data suggest it has risen over the last year. For example, fraud referred to the police showed an annual rise of 4% and industry data on financial fraud showed there were 1.8 million cases of frauds on UK-issued cards (an increase of 22% from the previous year). |
