A new study indicates that Neptune gently swept a class of loosely bound pairs of planetoids, known as "blue binaries," into the outer solar system. Neptune's gravitational nudges likely shepherded this type of planetoid pairs into the distant area known as the Kuiper belt. The study uses data collected from NSF's Gemini Observatory.
