| May 14-20, 2017, is National Police Week, a time to honor the nation's law enforcement officers. At Interior, our 3,500 law enforcement officers are essential in protecting some of the nation's most treasured lands, Tribal communities, and keeping the visiting public safe. Since the Department's founding in 1849, we have lost 139 law enforcement officers in the line of duty, and their sacrifice is not forgotten.
