Researchers find computer code that allowed modern automobiles to defeat emissions tests 05/25/2017 07:06 PM EDT An international team of researchers has uncovered the mechanism that allowed modern automobiles to circumvent U.S. and European emission tests over a period of at least six years. Computer scientists conducted a year-long investigation that led them to code that signaled a car's onboard computer to reduce emissions only during times that tests were most likely.
