2017's closest supermoon is May 25
For the 1st time since 2009, a new moon - not a full moon - is the closest supermoon of a year. 
What is a supermoon?
By at least 1 definition, the year 2017 has 4 supermoons. Three are new moons and not visible in our sky. The only full moon supermoon of 2017 will come in December.
Tides and the pull of the sun and moon
Expect higher-than-usual tides for a few days following the May 25, 2017 new supermoon.
