BREAKING: Rep. Steve Scalise was at 'imminent risk of death' after being shot during congressional baseball practice, doctor says

  While doctors say they are encouraged by House Majority Whip Steve Scalise's recovery from the gunshot wound he suffered Wednesday, they said the injuries suffered by the Louisiana Republican were worse than initially reported and that he was at "imminent risk of death" when he arrived at the hospital. Dr. Jack Sava, chief of trauma care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, said Scalise remains in critical condition and will require more operations, as well as an extended hospital stay.
