How and why proteins fold is a problem that has implications for protein design and therapeutics. Researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch are exploring protein folding in bacteriophage DNA and other systems using advanced computing resources at the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Recent studies suggest the introduction of "kinks" into configurations of DNA packaged within spherical confinement lowers energies and pressures and allows for compression.
